I wonder who exactly is in charge of heading up this research, though - how did they figure out that waste chemicals might be the cause and not some sort of biological evolution? (Not that female snails would typically "evolve" (devolve?) into growing penises on their heads... but I'm just curious how/who first discovered the scientific link between chemicals and the mutations.
